A note on what this is. These terms are written in good faith and in plain language for a small consulting website. They are not legal advice, and they don't replace a lawyer's review for anything that genuinely matters to you. The work I actually do for a client is governed by the separate written agreement we sign for that engagement — not by this page.
1. Agreeing to these terms
By using marikaolson.com (the "site"), you agree to these Terms & Conditions. If you don't agree with them, please don't use the site. I may update these terms from time to time; the version posted here, with the date above, is the one that applies.
2. Who runs this site
The site is operated by Marika Olson Consulting, the trade name under which Rogue Bureaucrat LLC — a Washington State limited liability company — does business. "I," "me," and "we" refer to that business throughout.
3. What this site is for
This site exists to explain what I do, share writing and book notes from the practice, and make it easy to get in touch or book a call. The information here is general and informational. It isn't tailored advice for your specific business, finances, legal situation, or anything else, and you shouldn't treat it as a substitute for advice from a professional who knows your circumstances.
4. The work itself is governed by our contract
Reading this site, emailing me, or booking a discovery call does not create a consulting engagement or any obligation on either of us to work together. If we do decide to work together, that work is governed by the specific written agreement (proposal, statement of work, or services agreement) we both sign for it. Where anything in that signed agreement differs from this page, the signed agreement controls.
5. Content and intellectual property
Unless noted otherwise, everything on this site — the writing, the blog and book notes, the page copy, the design, the logo, the photography, and the underlying code — is owned by Rogue Bureaucrat LLC (or used with permission) and is protected by copyright and other intellectual-property laws.
You're welcome to read it, and to share a link or a short, attributed quote, the way you naturally would. You may not republish, copy, sell, or build a competing or substantial derivative work from this content without my written permission. Brief, attributed quotation with a link back is fine and appreciated.
"Marika Olson Consulting" and the logo are marks I use to identify this business; please don't use them in a way that suggests I endorse or am affiliated with something I'm not.
6. Using the site responsibly
This is a small site with a simple ask: use it in good faith. Please don't try to break it, overload it, scrape it abusively, probe it for vulnerabilities, or use it to do anything unlawful. The "Book a call" scheduler and any email link are there for genuine inquiries, not for spam or automated abuse.
7. Links to other sites
The site links out to other places — LinkedIn, Instagram, the books I write about, the scheduling tool, and so on. I don't control those sites and I'm not responsible for their content, their accuracy, or their practices. A link isn't an endorsement of everything on the other end.
8. No warranties
I keep this site accurate and current to the best of my ability, but I provide it "as is" and "as available." I don't warrant that the information is complete, error-free, or up to date, that the site will always be available, or that it's free of anything harmful. To the fullest extent the law allows, I disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement as they apply to this website.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I won't be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising out of your use of — or inability to use — this site, or your reliance on anything you read here. This section is about the website itself; the liability terms for any actual paid work are set in the agreement we sign for that work. Nothing here limits any liability that can't legally be limited.
10. Indemnification
If your misuse of the site — for example, using it unlawfully or violating these terms — causes a claim against me, you agree to cover the reasonable costs I incur as a result. For an ordinary visitor reading the site in good faith, this never comes into play.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute relating to this site will be handled in the state or federal courts located in Washington, and you agree to that venue.
12. Changes to these terms
I may revise these terms as the site or the business changes. When I do, I'll post the updated version here and change the "last updated" date. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised terms.
